Five Drinks That Help You Sleep

Can’t get to sleep? If you’re apprehensive about swallowing sleeping pills (which you should be!) or if there’s no time for making a late-night dash to the store for an herbal remedy, here’s a list of five drinks which are known for helping people fall asleep.
Tart Cherry Juice
Recent scientific reports have found that tart cherry juice reduced the severity of insomnia by improving sleep maintenance. In other words, insomniacs drinking the cherry juice woke up less frequently during the night. In fact, studies show that tart cherry juice is just as effective as melatonin.
Ovaltine
Not only is Ovaltine made with warm milk, one of the most popular sleep remedies around, but it is also rich in sleep-inducing minerals. Ovaltine is a great source of B vitamins, phosphorous, iron, zinc and magnesium which work to relax muscles and help you wind down before bed.
Lemon, Ginger and Honey Tea
This simple concoction is great for helping you relax before bed time. Just drop a few lemon wedges, some sliced ginger, and a generous teaspoon of honey into a mug of hot water. Let it infuse for a few minutes and then sip slowly.
Miso Soup
The broth-based soup often served in Japanese restaurants also is available in eight-ounce instant packs. Miso contains amino acids that can help boost the production of melatonin, a natural hormone that helps make you sleepy.
Warm Milk
This age-old cure for sleeplessness, said to be effective because milk is high in the amino acid tryptophan, reportedly has a calming effect on the brain and helps induce sleep.
